Summer is THE time for travelling. How about taking a trip through Europe this year? From Latvia to Hungary and on via Great Britain, Russia and Belgium to Romania and Iceland? This exciting itinerary awaits you on the banks of the Rhine. From 19 to 29 June, NEW PLAYS FROM EUROPE from all over Europe.
NEW PLAYS FROM EUROPE is the largest international festival dedicated exclusively to productions of contemporary plays in their original languages. The focus is on authors and their texts. For 11 days the stages of Wiesbaden and Mainz will serve as an observation deck over Europe. And the festival tent in the Warmer Damm park will become a hub for idea sharing and heated debate – in a polyphony of languages, Polish writers will meet up with theatergoers from Mainz, Icelandic actors will unite with students from Wiesbaden and Turkish directors will get together with German lighting designers to discuss the festival performances or simply to shake a leg together on the dance floor.
The programme of additional events puts the invited productions into a greater context. With introductions to the plays, post-show discussions, panels and lectures by artists, scholars and publishers on Europe’s most pressing topics as well as author readings, DJ nights and concerts, the Theatre Biennale once again aims to be an opulent European celebration for the body and senses. It’s going to be exciting and exhilarating – so come join us on our expedition! We look forward to welcoming you.
